The corset trunkplasty is a single-stage body contouring technique that addresses redundant skin of the entire anterolateral trunk following significant weight loss. It utilizes a combination of incisions derived from the fleur-de-lis and reverse abdominoplasties, which results in treating not only the lower trunk but the often neglected mid-trunk (upper abdomen and lower chest). The procedure is accomplished with several direct skin resections-vertical, lower chest and lower trunk. The end result is a full-length contoured abdomen (chest-to-pubis) and waistline (chest-to-hip).
Since the corset trunkplasty can be individually designed to address specific areas of concern on the trunk (abdomen, lower chest, upper back, flanks, hips and lower back), it provides significant body contouring versatility. The procedure is centered on an aggressive vertical abdominal resection that maximizes waistline shape, as opposed to any other procedure available today. The lower chest resection can be designed to either: (a) remove only the upper midline "dog ear" created by the vertical closure of the wide horizontal defect or (b) extended onto the back for enhanced upper waistline contouring (lower chest and upper back skin removal) as well. The lower trunk resection can be designed to either: (a) remove only the lower midline"dog ear" created by the vertical closure of the wide horizontal defect or (b) extended onto the back for enhanced lower waistline contouring (flank, hip and lower back skin removal) as well.

"Over the past several years, I have discovered that the versatility of the corset trunkplasty has significantly increased my overall number of body contouring cases, It allows me to tailor the procedure to specific patient needs, addressing certain areas of skin redundancy as well as financial constraints. The procedure has expanded my practice to include a wide range of weight loss patients, such as individuals with multiple levels of extensive skin rolls, significant abdominal scars (paramedian, subcostal, etc.) or higher on the BMI scale (up to 40). Many of those patients would have been excluded from other forms of contouring (extended abdominoplasty, belt lipectomy or standard fleur-de-lis abdominoplasty) due to the potential for poor contouring results or higher incidence of post-operative wound complications. Regardless of the modification, the final result achieves its pre-operative goals, resulting in satisfied patients that may be eager to undergo further contouring surgery or happily refer family and friends."
Dr. Alexander P. Moya has had the privilege of presenting his corset body contouring technique at several plastic surgery symposiums over the past couple of years. He was honored to receive an award for his abstract presentation in Las Vegas, NV in May 2009.

"I almost gave up on the procedure several years ago since my biggest post-operative complication was extended drainage leading to a high incidence of seromas. This outcome was not surprising due to the large areas of surface resection and associated surrounding thermal tissue damage. I ended up using four closed suction drains for over three weeks on average. Once I switched to HarmonicTM Technology, my drainage totals significantly decreased and I started adjusting my drain use. Today, I do not use a single drain regardless of patient size or amount of skin removed."
